Managing implications of a diverse workforce
Conference keynote speaker A/P Debra King speaks about managing the implications of a diverse workforce in the latest issue of Australian Ageing Agenda.
Debra King is the co-author of the National Aged Care Workforce Census and Survey. A hundred residential providers were surveryed in 2007 to gain a deeper understanding of their workforces and the proportion of migrant workers.
The findings revealed both benefits and challenges in workforce diversity. “Benefits were around increased cultural diversity and connecting with communities. Some of the problems were around communication, particularly for older people who have dementia because often they revert back to their primary language", King said.
Debra King will present on 'The Changing Face of Cultural Diversity in the Aged Care Workforce' at the Cultural Diversity in Ageing 2014 Conference.
